Kelby VanDerWerff tosses no-hitter as Honkers blank Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman

Apr. 16—CHAMBERLAIN — Kelby VanDerWerff was unhittable for Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica-Stickney Thursday.

VanDerWerff did not allow a hit in five innings as the Honkers blanked Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman 14-0. He struck out four and walked four, while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

PGDCWLCS (2-0) built on a 2-0 lead with four runs in the third inning, sparked by three consecutive singles to start the frame. Caden Foxley and VanDerWerff notched back-to-back RBI singles.

The Honkers put the game away with eight runs in the top of the fifth, as Jackson Olsen and Foxley both drove in a pair with a single, while Hayes Rabenberg had an RBI single and Grayson Hanson drove in two with a double.

Foxley finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Myles Kott was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Rabenberg also drove in two runs.

Carter Lenz, Ian Anderson and Levi Miller allowed 12 earned runs on 13 hits and six walks, while striking out four for Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman.

PGDCWLCS traveled to Parkston at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman played Hot Springs at 5 p.m. Friday.
