No National Women’s Soccer League team is more in the moment than the KC Current, unbeaten in their last 10 games.

But the club is also looking ahead ... to 2024.

That’s when the team plans to debut its new downtown stadium at Berkley Riverfront Park, and the Current opened a season ticket deposit sign-up period for the inaugural season on Tuesday.

In May, the Current released renderings of the 11,500-seat privately funded stadium to be built on a 7.08-acre site on the east end of the park.

Generator Studio, JE Dunn and Monarch build are the primary design and construction partners for the first soccer-specific stadium built for a NWSL team.

In a letter to fans, Current owners Angie and Chris Long and Brittany Mahomes called the stadium an investment in Kansas City.

“This stadium is for Kansas City, the best sports town in the world — a downtown stadium, in the heart of the Soccer Capital of America,” the owners said. “This stadium is for our world-class female athletes — an investment that every female athlete around the world deserves.

“Together, we are doing what’s never been done. We are the first, but we will not be the last. Not for novelty, but for necessity. We are not setting the standard; we are building it.”
