Kate Middleton channels Princess Diana for the second time during royal tour of Pakistan

Prince William and Duchess Kate have been in Pakistan for less than 24 hours, but the Duchess of Cambridge has already stepped out in two outfits that pay tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who visited the country in 1991 and 1997.

For her arrival on Monday, the mother-of-three stepped off the Royal Airforce plane wearing an ombre turquoise Catherine Walker tunic and Rupert Sanderson pumps, a look that many are likening to the shalwar kameez that Princess Diana wore while arriving at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in 1997.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second day in Pakistan involved two meetings with notable Pakistani dignitaries: the first with the president of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi. The second meeting involved Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was a longtime friend of Princess Diana and was said to be a big supporter of her relationship with Pakistani heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Khan.

For the occasion, Kate opted for a mint green tunic again by Catherine Walker, which she paired with cream pants and Emmy London heels. The look was once again reminiscent of one of Princess Diana's most memorable from her solo tour in 1991: a mint green dress she wore to visit the Badshai Mosque in Lahore.

Prince William also reflected on his mother's love of the country during a visit to Islamabad Model College for Girls, where he was told that the students were "big fans" of Diana.

"Oh, that’s very sweet of you. I was a big fan of my mother too," the dad of three responded. "She came here three times. I was very small. This is my first time and it is very nice to be here and meet you all."

Royal experts had predicted that the duchess will continue to channel Princess Diana throughout the tour with more traditional looks.

“I think we will probably see at least one traditional shalwar kameez — the top and loose trousers look — from Kate on this trip,” said Susan Kelley, founder of the blog What Kate Wore, to People. “Diana wore that look multiple times in Pakistan and I think she has on occasion looked to Diana for inspiration, while being careful not to copy her.”
