Justin Timberlake recently revealed that he and Jessica Biel welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Phineas. And although Biel’s pregnancy and birth happened in secret, the singer and actor told Dax Shepard that he’s working on balancing the family’s public and private lives for the sake of their children.

“I try to be conscious of making sure we can live a life where we’re not weirdly private but we’re conscious of making sure they could be kids for as long as possible and not have the weight of somebody else treating them differently because of something that their parents do,” Timberlake said on an episode of the podcast Armchair Expert on Monday.

The Punk’d alums related to one another with their experiences as parents to two young children. While Shepard has two young girls with his wife Kristen Bell, however, Timberlake and Biel have two boys — Silas, 5, and the newborn, Phineas.

“Raising young males is one thing and raising young females right now is another thing,” Timberlake said.

Still, the dads could relate to the efforts they make to ensure that their kids don’t place so much emphasis on their parents’ jobs — especially when it comes to playing some of their peers’ favorite characters, like Bell as Princess Anna from Frozen.

“We have the same thing where the kids at school with my 5-year-old are like, ‘Your dad is Branch from Trolls,’” Timberlake said. “I guess for guys like us, the hope is that we just keep instilling in them that we’ve got really fun jobs but it’s not who we are. And hopefully, down the road that has more weight to it I guess.”

When it comes to blending his pop star life with being a father, Timberlake noted that he’s still at the earliest parts of that journey.

“I’ve done one world tour since we became parents and [Silas] was three. We’d play a fun game every night where I walk out on stage in sort of this silhouette and I would let him, almost like a pro wrestler, I’d say, ‘OK, what’s my pose gonna be tonight?’ Sometimes, he’d pick some poses that I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m gonna work this out,’” he joked. “I guess, for the most part, I try to take the weight out of it and make it fun for him.”
