Jury finds Damarion Moore guilty in 2020 killings of his girlfriend, man

Update: Damarion Moore was sentenced to 116 years in prison in this case, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced Feb. 3, 2023.

An Indianapolis man has been found guilty of murder in two separate fatal shootings in 2020, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

A jury on Wednesday found Damarion Moore guilty of two counts of murder in the killings of Chrishaun Snelling, 21, and Shaughnje Scott, 24.

The conviction comes roughly three years after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers found Snelling with gunshot wounds at an apartment in the 700 block of Hardin Boulevard on Jan. 8. He died shortly after arriving at a hospital.

Witnesses told investigators Snelling got a phone call from someone asking him to step outside the apartment just before being shot. Prosecutors said police traced the call to Moore’s phone number.

Hours later, officers were told by police in Danville, Illinois that they received a tip about how Moore told his family he killed his girlfriend in Indianapolis, officials said.

Scott was found by police shot dead the next morning at a residence in the 900 block of Westmore Drive. Police found texts on her phone from Moore they say threatened to kill any man she chose over him.

Officials with the prosecutor’s office said no connection between Snelling and Scott was determined other than they were friends on Facebook and had ties to a high school in Gary.

Police arrested Moore in connection with the homicides in Champaign, Illinois. Police said spent bullets at each crime scene matched the same handgun Moore had upon his arrest.

Moore is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 3.
