Junction City streets packed during 4th of July festivities

Jul. 5—The streets and parks in Junction City were full during Freedom Fest, with people going on rides, watching performers, perusing vendors' items, eating festival food and desserts and listening to bands.

Each day of the festival from June 30 to July 4 offered activities families could enjoy, including a dog show, agriculture education children's show, circus act, mullet competition and many rides for children and adults.

Celebrations included two bands each day and fireworks shows both on Saturday and Monday evenings. The artists include Disco Dick and the Mirror Balls, Paramount, ZZ-KC, Rock Gods, Brandon Estelle, Rhett Walker, Run With It and Casi Joy, who is an artist originating from Kansas City.

Around 12 vendors were at the festival each day, with food vendors on the west side of Heritage Park and craft vendors on the east side.

During Freedom on Wheels on Saturday, people enjoyed riding their bikes, skateboards, scooters, roller skates and more downtown. The event also had a street dance on Saturday. On Sunday morning, a combined worship service was held at Heritage Park, and Christian bands played on stage in the evening.
