JROTC to have facility of its own

Jun. 14—LAURINBURG — Scotland County High School students will have a new educational building on campus when they go back to school in the fall as long as everything goes as planned.

According to LTC Karl McCloud, the school is getting its first rifle and archery range.

"We will use this building to teach rifle safety as well as to shoot pellets and target archery arrows," said McCloud. "I, along with MSG Ray Drewry, am looking forward to being able to host shooting competitions instead of traveling to other schools to compete in rifle shooting and archery."

McCloud also said he receives a good deal of positive comments about teaching archery and rifle safety from the students at Scotland County High School.

"Students interested in our JROTC program should know that archery is safe and fun," said McCloud. "There are also funds available for shooting and archery available for them to receive for College."

According to McCloud, the project is currently being worked on and they are hoping to have it complete within a few months.

"The completion date will also be determined by the weather," said McCloud. "I want to say thank you to (former) Superintendent Ron Hargrave and Mr. Satterfield for making this happen, as well as their staff."
