Josh Heupel congratulates Vols defeating Vanderbilt in SEC Fall Match Play championship

No. 12 Tennessee defeated No. 1 Vanderbilt, 3-2, to win the SEC Fall Match Play championship Tuesday at Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

Redshirt freshman Lance Simpson, redshirt junior Jake Hall and redshirt junior Bryce Lewis posted wins against the Commodores on the final day of tournament play.

Lance Simpson (UT) defeated William Moll (VU), 2-up
Jake Hall (UT) defeated Cole Sherwood (VU), 3&2
Matthew Riedel (VU) defeated Cade Russell (UT), 4&2
Gordon Sargent (VU) defeated Caleb Surratt (UT), 6&5
Bryce Lewis (UT) defeated Reid Davenport (VU), 1-up

The win is Tennessee’s first tournament victory since 2020 (Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic).

Second-year Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel congratulated the Vols’ golf win during his media availability Wednesday.

“I want to start by congratulating Coach (Brennan) Webb and the golf team for winning a match-play championship yesterday,” Heupel said. “It was awesome to see their success, and it is great to see a lot of success here on campus by all of our sports teams, so we are excited for them.”
