Joie Siegrist to continue as SVVSD school board president

Dec. 2—Joie Siegrist will continue to serve as the St. Vrain Valley school board's president, while Karen Ragland is the new vice president.

They were elected to the positions by the school board by secret ballot at a special meeting Wednesday, and each was the only one nominated.

Two new board members, Meosha Brooks and Sarah Hurianek, were sworn in at Wednesday's meeting, as was incumbent Ragland.

Brooks, a district parent and advanced systems manager at Ball Aerospace, has children at Soaring Heights PK-8, Erie High School and Niwot High School. Hurianek is a stay-at-home mom who previously worked in early childhood education. Her two children attend Mead Elementary.

Before swearing in the new members, board members and Superintendent Don Haddad thanked the two term-limited board members, John Ahrens and Paula Peairs.

Peairs praised district leaders for putting students first.

"I just want to say it has been a very easy honor to serve on this board," she said.

Ahrens noted he started eight years ago with the "500-year" floods and is ending with a "100-year" pandemic.

"It's been such an incredible opportunity to work with amazing students, teachers and administrators," he said.
