John Thomas Terrier Classic: Dylan Jacobs, Yaseen Abdalla set record performances

Two Tennessee distance specialists set records Friday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Tennessee graduate student Dylan Jacobs set an American collegiate indoor record in the 5,000-meter run. Redshirt junior Yaseen Abdalla recorded an NCAA all-time top-10 time in the 3,000-meter run.

Jacobs finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13 minutes, 11.01 seconds in his debut for the Vols. It was a personal best for the Notre Dame transfer.

Jacobs’ time is the best mark recorded for the event this year and the third all-time mark in NCAA indoor track history.

Abdalla finished in second place with a time of 7:42.23.

His mark in  the 3,000-meter run is the sixth best in NCAA history and No. 2 all-time in the Southeastern Conference. His performance set the Sudanese record in the event.

Canaan Anderson recorded a top-20 finish in the 1-mile run (4:01.27) for Tennessee.
