Joe Naranjo hits another home run as Captains beat Cedar Rapids

May 18—First baseman Joe Naranjo hit a home run for the second game in a row, and the Captains won, 4-2, on May 18 at Cedar Rapids.

Lake County (16-18) has won the first two games of the series against the Kernels (24-11), who entered the game in first place in the Midwest League Western Division.

Naranjo was the second batter of the game when he hit his solo shot. He has seven home runs and 21 RBI this season.

The Captains pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third inning on a Johnathan Rodriguez's RBI double and a Gabriel Rodriguez sacrifice fly. Cedar Rapids answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2. Aaron Bracho's second home run of the season in the sixth inning pushed the Captains' lead back to two runs.

Captains pitchers struck out 11 more batters, giving them 29 strikeouts in the first two games of the series.

The series continues at 7:35 p.m. on May 19. Mason Hickman is the scheduled starter for Lake County.
