Joe Burrow updates his injury comeback status: ‘I’m ahead of schedule’

After his knee took center stage as an attention-grabber during the redesigned jersey reveal for the Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Burrow hit on a mini-media circuit.

Burrow appeared on the Pro Football Focus podcast with Cris Collinsworth and provided an update on his comeback bid:

“I’m very optimistic about where I’m at and also where the team is at. Rehab is going very, very well and lifting is going very, very well. I’m in great shape. Legs feel good, knee feels good. There’s still a long way to go, but I’m expecting to be there on the first snap of 2021.”

“I’m expecting to play game one. I expect to take part in practice. I’m feeling really good. I’m ahead of schedule.”

Key words there? “I’m ahead of schedule.”

Burrow says he’s running and lifting right now, though rolling out of the pocket and throwing is still a no-no. But for a guy targeting a Week 1 return? All signs seem to point to that still being on the table.

This is the first major news drop Bengals fans have really had about Burrow’s comeback bid. Otherwise, the team has tried to keep a tight lid on things for the sake of protecting him.

But Burrow took things into his own hands here — and it’s nothing but good news.
