Jimmies struggle offensively in 1-0 loss to Northwestern

Oct. 2—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown could not find an equalizer in a 1-0 loss to Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Jimmie Turf Field. The loss pushes the Jimmies' winless streak to six games.

"I'm not frustrated with them, more probably frustrated for them just because I feel like we're very close to maybe not quite having the opposite record because our record is not very good right now but we're very close to having multiple games flipped in the opposite direction," Jimmies head coach Connor Campbell said.

The Jimmies (2-8-1, 0-4-1) won an early free kick that was taken by Frankie Parkinson but it was caught by the Red Raiders' goalie Ezekiel Foltz. The Red Raiders (4-4-3, 3-1-1) had a quality chance on goal late in the first half but it was played out of danger by the Jimmies Ben Sletto.

The Red Raiders almost scored early in the second half as the shot got past Jimmies' goalie Matthew English but they were able to save it off the line and keep the game scoreless. The Red Raiders would keep pushing though and break through when Stan Van De Beld tucked a shot just under the bar to make it 1-0 with 41:01 to go in the game.

"I think there are little things that we can improve but on their goal, we switched off briefly and decided to leave people open," Campbell said. "Matt did a good job today in goal overall and saved our butts a couple times but you can only give other teams so many chances, especially in this conference. It's so even for a lot of the matchups that them getting an open look can be, like it was today, the difference between a win and a loss because we had good chances as well, we just weren't able to put them away."

In the second half, the Jimmies were held to one shot on goal.

The Jimmies are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host Presentation College.
