Jimmies men's hoops lockdown defensively in 73-60 win over West Virginia Tech

Nov. 26—KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The No.5-ranked University of Jamestown mounted a second half to get a 73-60 win over West Virginia Institute of Technology at "The Show" at the Meadowview Resort.

"This is a good win for us because we didn't shoot it great," Jimmies head coach Danny Neville said. "We know that without shooting great, we can still win games by playing defense. Anytime you can beat a good team and we've been on the road for a long time, anytime you can walk out of there with a win is a good thing."

The Jimmies (6-1) trailed by as much as seven in the first half before a late Mason Walters layup cut the deficit to four points sending the game into the half with the Golden Bears (4-4) up 35-31. In the first half, the Jimmies shot 12-for-30 from the field and 2-for-10 from three. On the other side, the Golden Bears shot 13-for-28 and 8-for-16 from three.

"I thought they came out with more energy and they brought it to us in the first half but we made a run there late to get it within a reasonable number," Neville said. "But, they definitely outplayed us there in the first half."

Early in the second half the Golden Bears' Keondre King knocked down a three to push the lead out to 46-36. The Jimmies' Marc Kjos hit a three to cut the deficit to 46-39 with 17:21 to go in the game. The Jimmies took a one-point lead with 11:06 to go in the game on a Walters triple to make it 54-53.

From there the Jimmies never looked back stretching the lead out to as much as 16 points at 73-57 with 1:15 to go in the game.

In the second half, the Jimmies managed to force the Golden bears into 11 turnovers, for a game total of 20.

The Jimmies are back in action at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, when they face No.15 ranked William Jessup University.
