Jimmies fall 169-110 at UMary in season opening meet

Oct. 2—BISMARCK — The University of Jamestown went to Bismarck for their season-opening meet against the University of Mary and struggled as a team losing 169-110 on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The Jimmies (0-1) and Marauders (1-0) competed in 16 events against each other. The Jimmies had four first-place finishes at the meet. After the Jimmies finished in second and fifth in the women's 200-yard medley relay, they turned to freshman Laurel Knox for their first win as she took the top spot in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:04.58. The next Jimmie to get a win was Jada Shorter who won the one-meter diving event with a score of 224.90, almost 50 points higher than her teammate Kahlan Hamilton, who finished in second. Shorter also won the three-meter diving competition with a score of 208.15.

The Jimmies would find themselves back on top of the podium thanks to Sulinke Van Den Berg winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.93. The quickest Jimmies relay team was their top squad who finished in second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.32. That team was made up of Nalani Curry, Knox, Emma Pickrel and Van Den Berg.

The Jimmies A relay team also finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.68. That squad was made up of Van Den Berg Pickrel, Blanca Espinosa and Curry.

The two teams face off against each other again at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Jamestown High School.
