JID has revealed that his third album, The Forever Story, will arrive on August 26th via Dreamville/Interscope Records. The announcement was also packaged with lead single “Dance Now” featuring Kenny Mason and Fousheé as well as its accompanying video.

The Forever Story will host 15 tracks, but the only other confirmed song other to be included is the 21 Savage and Yung Baby Tate collab “Surround Sound” from January. The new album’s title is a nod to the Atlanta rapper’s 2017 debut The Never Story, and its updated phrasing fits better for the now well-established and enduring MC. The LP artwork, photographed by Naskademini, completes the full-circle connection with a group shot that mirrors Never Storys cover sketch of characters.

JID adds three more characters to that group in the first lines of “Dance Now,” playing with the spelling and pronunciation of his stage name: “J.I.D back in the city with it/ Jiddy done been all across the globe/ They say ‘JID a scribbler, he silly with it.'” For the record, the album’s press materials have listed his artist name without the distinguishing periods this time around.

The song was produced by frequent collaborator Christo, who spins a sample of chants and bluesy horns into a devilishly tempting tune with a hook by vocalists Fousheé and Kenny Mason, the latter whom appeared with JID and J. Cole on “Stick” from Dreamville’s D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape in April. JID directed the “Dance Now”music video himself, and you can check it out below.

Pre-orders for The Forever Story are ongoing. The album is preceded by JID’s 2018 full-length DiCaprio 2. In June, JID also appeared on the Dot da Genius-helmed joint single “Talk About Me” along with Kid Cudi and Denzel Curry.
