JI Track Meet: Wilkie wins twice for Ellington boys, Manchester captures team title

May 21—MANCHESTER — Josh Wilkie set not one but two personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles on day two of the 40th Randy Smith Journal Inquirer Track Meet Saturday.

The meet was split into two days this year due to Saturday's heat.

Wilkie set his personal best in the preliminary round and then beat it again with a time of 14.97 in the finals to take the event title.

The senior, who will continue his track and field career at Tufts next fall, also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.07.

Manchester (85 points) edged out Windsor (84) to win both the overall and large school division titles. Rockville (72) won the medium school division crown, besting Tolland (59). In the small school division, East Windsor (52) topped Coventry (44) to bring home the championship.

Jamil Manu won the triple jump (43 feet, 7 inches) and the long jump (21-4) for the Red Hawks. Northern Arizona-bound senior Aidan Puffer added a victory in the 800 meters (1:55.74).
