Jerry Jones says Dallas Cowboys are still talking to Odell Beckham but time running out

Free agent receiver Odell Beckham finally said the quiet part out loud.

On The Shop on PrimeVideo on Thursday, Beckham said he is only focused on playing in the playoffs.

“I’m not saying I couldn’t step in and play regular season, but I don’t see the point,” Beckham said.

That is the not same verbiage used by the Cowboys, who are one on three teams vying for his services in hopes of the adding him for a playoff run. But the result is the same.

Beckham has not played in the NFL since suffering a torn ACL in Super Bowl 56 last February as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

He took visits to the Bills, Giants and Cowboys over the last week with the Cowboys coming away with concerns about his availability and when he would be able to play.

They want him to make an impact in 2022 and wouldn’t mind waiting for him until the playoffs as long as they know he will be ready to go by then.

The Cowboys don’t know that.

As of now they haven’t ruled him but owner Jerry Jones said time is running out of a decision because they would like him in the building rehabbing and ramping for a playoff run if there is a chance for a deal with the Cowboys.

“The question is can he get something and do it in a sound way for his future. Can he do it physically in a sound way and not push that beyond where it should be pushed and at the same time help us,” Jones said on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan Friday. “That’s what we’re going over right now.”

“Well, yes, we’re still in contact,” Jones said. “Yes. Yes, yes. Is there a timeline? Probably the fact that time is ticking in terms of getting in here and really initiating the heavy work on a rehab for the playoffs if it’s going to happen.”
