Jeremy Lin treats himself to pizza after recovering from COVID-19

NBA champ Jeremy Lin has been discharged from a Shanghai hospital after testing negative for COVID-19.

30 days in bed: Lin, 33, is currently signed with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Beijing Ducks. He returned to China in early August and contracted COVID-19 while in quarantine.

  • Lin tested positive for the coronavirus despite being vaccinated, testing negative prior to departure twice, testing negative upon arrival and “being really careful during travel.” While his case was mild, it had not been a “cakewalk,” he said.

  • After spending 30 days at a Shanghai hospital, the basketball star announced that he has tested negative for the disease. “Never have I ever been more happy to be Negative Nancy,” he said in an Instagram post showing him eating pizza.

  • Lin thanked front line workers for “risking their health to get me right.” He said medical staff live at the hospital for a month and are quarantined for 14 days before they can come home to their families.




What’s next: Lin is currently staying at a hotel for a 21-day quarantine. Whether or not he can play for the Beijing Ducks in the upcoming season remains to be seen.

  • “I still don‘t know if CBA will have foreign aid this season,” Lin said on Weibo. “If so, I will try my best to play in front of the fans. If not, it doesn’t matter. As long as the decision is beneficial to Chinese basketball, I will support it.”

  • Lin holds both American and Taiwanese (Republic of China) citizenships. As per the South China Morning Post, 15 of the CBA’s 20 teams released a joint statement expressing support for barring foreign players for the season -- the Beijing Ducks was among those that favored having foreigners.

  • Lin designed a T-shirt in partnership with his sponsor Xtep for media professionals. They will also donate to a rural medical aid station as a token of appreciation for medical workers’ efforts amid the pandemic, according to SHINE.
