'Jeopardy!' Fans Are Shocked After Seeing The Show's Major Record Announcement

On January 7, the California-based engineering manager was quick on the buzzer following a nerve-wracking game the day before. Amy secured an early lead during her 28th Jeopardy! game and after starting out with a total of $977,400, she won an additional $42,200. With that, the Ohio native officially surpassed the $1 million mark ($1,019,600) and her incredible accomplishment was threefold — she is only the fifth person to do so in the quiz show’s history, the fourth person to accomplish this record in regular season play and the first woman to become part of the millionaire club.

Amy joins the ranks of Brad Rutter ($4,938,436), Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings ($4,370,700), James Holzhauer ($2,962,216) and Matt Amodio ($1,518,601) in the Jeopardy! Hall of Fame. After following her extraordinary journey, which began on November 17, and witnessing Amy reach this rare milestone, Jeopardy! fans wasted no time celebrating her all over social media.

“All hail our queen! 👸 Congratulations, Amy! 🥳,” one person wrote on Instagram. “👏👏 ❤️❤️ congratulations Amy!! I’ve been rooting for you from the beginning!! Your intelligence simply blows me away. And your kindness is undeniable! Keep it up lady!! We love you!!” another added. “Congratulations, you deserve it. Your knowledge is absolutely incredible and it’s amazing, I’d even say thrilling, to watch as you expertly play the game! Thank you for sharing yourself with us!” a follower commented.

Within moments of becoming the next Jeopardy! millionaire, Ken asked Amy how it felt, and she said, “Pretty good!” Given that Jeopardy! episodes are filmed in advance, she has had time to process this benchmark. After the episode aired, she shared more about what it means to her.

“It feels amazing, it feels strange,” Amy said in an exclusive interview with the show. “It’s not a sum of money I ever anticipated would be associated with my name. This has been something I have wanted since I can remember. Being in the history of the game I think is something. You know, the money doesn’t feel real yet but that is something that I will never not be proud of.”

Now, Amy is focused on knocking down more records, specifically earning another $1 million and beating James’ record. The Chase cohost won $2,462,216 in 32 games. When looking at the average earnings per game, Amy has been raking in $36,538 while James brought in a whopping $74, 613. He won an additional $500,00 during tournament play.

That said, if she continues her 29 consecutive game-winning streak and goes beyond James’ 32 games, like Matt did, Amy can definitely catch up to James’ record. But if that isn't convincing enough, over on Twitter, Ken admitted how impressed he was by Amy's speed. "She did it! And in just 28 games, faster than my pace and tied with Matt Amodio," he wrote.
