Jeffery Simmons ‘very confident’ he’ll sign extension after meeting Ran Carthon

While at the Pro Bowl this week, Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons heaped praise on the hire of new general manager Ran Carthon and revealed he came away from a meeting with him with a positive outlook on his future with the team.

Simmons called the hiring of Carthon “great” and said his conversation with the new general manager was “unbelievable.”

“One thousand percent he’s a great hire,” Simmons said, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “I think Miss Amy made a hell of a hire. The time we talked, and I sat down in his office, it was unbelievable. He’s an unbelievable guy. I can’t say nothing bad about him. My first impression was out the window.”

Simmons, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is hoping to get an extension from the team this offseason, said he’s “very confident” about remaining in Tennessee for the long haul after the meeting.

“We had a great talk, and him saying I am one of his priorities, that meant a lot,” Simmons admitted. “I feel like he is the person for this job. There’s not much I can say especially with talk of the contract — my (agent) is handling that. But whenever we get to that point — I feel very confident that I’ll be here in Tennessee, and I want to be in Tennessee. So, we’ll see how that goes.”

After what happened with A.J. Brown last offseason, Titans fans are hoping they don’t see a similar situation with Simmons. Based on Simmons’ comments, it doesn’t look like that will happen, but never say never.
