Jeff Strunk wins modified feature at Big Diamond Speedway

Jul. 24—Jeff Strunk raced to his second Big Diamond Speedway victory of the season in Friday's modified feature at the track in Minersville.

Other winners Friday were Kevin Nagy in the PASS/MASS 305 sprints, Tim Fitzpatrick in the open sportsman, Doug Smith in the crate 602 sportsman and Alex Schoffstall in the roadrunners.

Strunk, who started sixth, moved up to second on the second lap in pursuit of Scott Albert, who would build close to a straightaway lead.

The two were running side by side on Lap 11, with Strunk taking the lead as Lap 12 was scored. He was able to pull away from there in the non-stop 25-lap event.

"This car was spot on tonight," Strunk said, according to a press release. "We are performing and we are getting the breaks and Lady Luck is on our side right now and that is all you can ask for."

Albert finished second, followed by Craig Von Dohren, Mike Gular and Louden Reimert. Timmy Buckwalter, Brett Kressley, Nick Rochinski, Alex Yankowski and Duane Howard completed the top 10.

The PASS/MASS 305 sprints were making their first start of the year at Big Diamond, and a crash at the start brought out a red flag.

Once racing resumed, Nagy took the lead on a restart on Lap 5. Tim Tanner finished second, followed by Devlin Adams, Tyler Cochran and Cody West.

In the 602 crate sportsman feature, Smith earned his first win at Big Diamond. Kyle Kania finished second, followed by Joel Smith, Steve Lyle and Grant Hilfiger.

In the open sportsman feature, Tim Fitzpatrick held off Brandon Edgar for his second win of the season. Doug Hendricks finished third, followed by Mike Toth and Tajae Adams.

In a 20-lap roadrunners feature plagued by yellow flags, Schoffstall took the lead on Lap 5. Ronny Suhr finished second, followed by Andrew Fayash III, Don Murphy and Jim Kost.
