Jamie Dimon once pitched a movie to Bob Iger, got rejected

Walt Disney (DIS) CEO Bob Iger shared that JPMorgan Chase (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon had once pitched him a movie idea.

“It was very gutsy of him,” said Bob Iger at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York City. “When you’re in the movie business and the head of a bank comes in with a movie idea, I mean, you show respect. But you don’t take it very seriously…. I was very direct with him, I said that’s just a bad idea.”

Dimon appreciated that Iger taking the time to hear him out.

“It was about a woman who couldn’t pick men very well so she’d have a board of directors of women who’d be testing men for her and picking her husband,” he said. “Bette Midler should be part of the cast, and that woman in Veep.”

(That woman was probably Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who stars in the show.)

“He graded it, he listened to me…. And he said, it’s a C,” Dimon said.

Iger responded: “Can you imagine if i came in and give him any ideas on how to run his bank?”

Disney owns nine of the top 10 U.S. opening weekends of all time and is dominating the box office in 2019. Disney hit a record $7.67 billion in yearly global revenue in July, with over $5 billion coming from overseas. No other Hollywood studio has topped $5 billion internationally in a single year.
