Jamestown Eagles hurlers struggle in road losses at Dickinson

Jul. 1—DICKINSON, N.D. — The Jamestown Eagles and the Dickinson Roughriders went into the bottom of the third inning with the Eagles up 4-2. A 10-run frame changed that as the Roughriders got a 13-8 win Thursday, June 30, at Astoria Field in Dickinson.

The Eagles starter Connor Hoyt struggled pitching 2.2 innings giving up six hits and nine earned runs, with 11 runs total, while striking out four and walking three.

Roughriders starter Isaac Daley went two innings, only giving up one hit but allowing three earned runs and walking five.

The only hit that Daley gave up was a Payton Hochhalter RBI double in the top of the first to score Hoyt and put the Eagles up 1-0. The last batter that Daley faced was Hochhalter who worked a bases loaded walk in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Daley helped his own case at the plate though as he hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to go up 2-1. After he was removed from the mound, Daley moved to first and hit another two-run home run in the bottom of the third to put the Roughriders up 5-4. Daley finished the first game going 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

Back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth saw the Eagles cut into the deficit and make it a 12-8 game but it wasn't enough to cut into the deficit.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Roughriders scored in four consecutive innings to get a mercy rule 11-1 win over the Eagles.

The Eagles defense continued to struggle as they had two errors, on which three runs were scored. The starters continued to help their cases at the plate in this game as the Eagles starter Jacoby Nold went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. On the mound, Nold lasted 5.2 innings giving up six hits and five earned runs with 10 runs total and walking six. The Roughriders starter Jadon Bast went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. On the bump, Bast lasted six innings striking out 10 Eagles hitters, giving up one run and three hits.

The Eagles opened the scoring for the third consecutive game thanks to a Nold RBI single to make it a 1-0 game. Daley continued his big day with a game-ending RBI double to right to score two runs and push the Roughriders lead out to 11-1.

The Eagles are back in action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, when they welcome in the Gillette Riders.
