James Van Der Beek opens up about miscarriages while announcing new pregnancy

On Monday’s Dancing With the Stars James Van Der Beek revealed that he and wife Kimberly are expecting their sixth child. While we do not know the gender of the new baby, the couple currently has four girls and a boy.

James also opened up about their past pregnancy troubles. “We've had five kids and three miscarriages,” the actor said. “Miscarriage is something that people don't really talk about, and we wanted to recognize that it happens to people. We wanted to destigmatize that as much as we possibly could.“

The former Dawson’s Creek star even shared the moment he and his wife first heard the baby’s heartbeat. After listening to the baby’s heartbeat, an emotional James said, “Hearing the heartbeat was something you never take for granted.“

James also announced the good news on his instagram page. His Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 103 costar Krysten Ritter commented, “Omg I’m DEAD!!! This is the most exciting news!!!”

James got more good news as he advanced to Disney Week. He is also an early favorite to win the whole competition.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
