Jamal Adams rips Adam Gase, GM Joe Douglas, outlines why he isn't happy with the Jets
Even if the New York Jets weren’t excited to trade star safety Jamal Adams, there might be no turning back now.
In an interview with Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Adams explained why he wants to be traded. It included harsh criticisms of coach Adam Gase’s leadership and general manager Joe Douglas, who Adams doesn’t trust anymore. The Daily News’ story said Adams has been told Douglas would be open to trading Adams if he got the right deal.
If the two-time Pro Bowler is still with the Jets this fall, it’s going to be an awkward situation.

Adams, the Jets’ best player, said he hasn’t talked to Gase since an exit interview after the end of last season. That’s the start of his issues with Gase.
“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams told Mehta. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.
“At the end of the day, he doesn’t address the team. If there’s a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we’re playing sh---y and we’re losing, he doesn’t address the entire team as a group at halftime. He’ll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it.”
The bigger issue appears to be how he feels he was lied to by Douglas through the offseason.
Adams outlines contract battle with Jets
The Daily News’ story said Adams was upset about how his contract situation was handled by Douglas. First, he was told in January that Douglas would go to ownership and start putting together an extension proposal. The proposal never came, Adams told the Daily News, but Douglas said at the NFL scouting combine in late February that he wanted Adams to be a “Jet for life.” There was still no offer and after the draft in April, Douglas told Adams’ representatives that the team was going to wait until next offseason.
Not only did contract talks never get off the ground, the Daily News said Douglas told Adams the team wanted to see if he was all-in with the Jets and football.
“It was very insulting,” Adams told Mehta. “You know I bust my ass for that organization every day. I work my ass off. For them to say that to me, I was like ‘OK ... Whoa! That was little bit too far.’ ”
The entire series of events, most notably the “Jet for life” comment, bothered Adams.
“Don’t B.S. me. I’m a straightforward guy,” Adams told the Daily News. “You don’t have to B.S. me, because I’m going to keep it honest.”
Adams told the Daily News he’ll report to training camp and that he loves the Jets’ fans. He just doesn’t want anything to do with management.
“My happiness is way more important than the rest of this,” Adams said. “I can’t deal with all that anymore. It’s draining.”
