Jalen Ramsey saga continues, as he'll miss practice due to a back injury

Jalen Ramsey has had quite a two-week stretch.

In 11 days, Ramsey had an argument with coach Doug Marrone on the sideline, asked for a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars, played for the Jaguars in a win over the Tennessee Titans, came down with the flu (which everyone questioned) and now will miss Wednesday’s practice with a back injury.

The Jaguars announced Ramsey would not practice on Wednesday. Players miss practices with injuries all the time, but this one will invite another round of skepticism.

Jalen Ramsey has had a long couple weeks

Ramsey, one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks, hasn’t been traded yet.

Ramsey asked for the trade after a Week 2 game against the Houston Texans. He said it wasn’t because of the argument with Marrone during that game, but because of unspecified disrespectful things said to him after the game.

Ramsey would help any contender. The Jaguars presumably don’t want him to go, because he is perhaps their best player. Owner Shad Khan reportedly is willing to give Ramsey a record contract for a cornerback.

It’s complicated. And this week hasn’t cleared anything up.

Ramsey missed Monday too

Ramsey didn’t practice on Monday. He said he thought he had the flu. He wouldn’t be the first player to get sick during a season. But the timing led to some doubts over whether he was really sick.

The same will happen with Ramsey’s back injury. Any other time, a star cornerback missing a Wednesday practice with a back injury wouldn’t cause much of a commotion.

We’ll see what happens next with Ramsey. Maybe he gets traded. Maybe he practices Thursday and plays for the Jaguars this week. The story has become a bit unpredictable.
