Jake Kapper first to cross the finish line at the Tomahawk Trot

GNADENHUTTEN — Jake Kapper, 16, was the first to cross the finish line at the Tomahawk Trot last Friday evening with a time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds.

Second place overall was David Ditcher, 36, with a time of 18:19, and Joe Carlisle,15, was third at 18:26.

Due to the storm damage that remains at Heck's Grove Park, runners started on South Walnut Street at the Masonic Temple. There were 106 entrants despite the hot and humid weather.

Alisha Fontana organized the race and felt things went well. She credited her many volunteers who've stepped up year after year.

"It was a great turnout despite the heat," Fontana said. "The new location gave us some added bonuses. A lot more crowd support from the festival attendees and we had an air-conditioned building to hold the registration and award ceremony, courtesy of the Masonic Temple."

This was the 12th year for the event.

"We had a modified racecourse but everyone seemed to like it," added Fontana. "Overall, I'm very pleased with the event and look forward to next year."
