Jags place cornerback Chris Claybrooks on injured reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they would be placing rookie cornerback Chris Claybrooks on injured reserve Thursday, leaving a lot of uncertainty at the cornerback position. He now joins starting cornerback C.J. Henderson and nickleback D.J. Hayden, both of whom were place on IR last week and this week, respectively.

With C.J. Henderson out, Claybrooks started in the Jags’ last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also sustained a groin injury in the process of the game, but registered 10 total tackles with eight being solo tackles.

All of the Jags’ injuries have left the Jags with just Tre Herndon as their lone corner who has started in a Jags uniform. Also on the roster are rookie corners Josiah Scott and Luq Barcoo, who are likely to see a lot of action Sunday. Scott is a player that many deemed a solid fit as a cornerback in the draft, so he could replace Hayden. That would leave Barcoo to start on the outside.

The Jags also picked up former Tennessee Titans cornerback Greg Mabin off the waiver wire, who has been in the league since 2017. However, he has just one start to his name, which means the Jags might prefer him as a special teams option for the moment.
