Jackson County woman, 24, dies in Lansing shooting; Lansing man, 28, arrested

Police are investigating after a man walked into McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital Friday afternoon with a gunshot wound.

LANSING — Police said a Lansing man was being held in connection with the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old Jackson County woman early Friday morning near a south Lansing apartment complex.

Arianna Reed was found in a vehicle in a nearby parking lot after officers responded to the 900 block of Long Boulevard, near Autumn Ridge Townhomes & Apartments, about 1:40 a.m., Lansing police said in a news release. She was dead at the scene, they said.

The suspect, 28, was found in a field moments before the shooting victim was located, police said, adding that "a firearm was secured." Officers arrested the Lansing man, but an investigation was ongoing, they said.

LPD Public Information Director Jordan Gulkis confirmed in an email that the homicide was a shooting.

Police said it was not a random incident; the two people knew each other.

Police released Reed's name in a Friday afternoon news release.

The killing was Lansing's 15th homicide of 2022, according to data compiled by the State Journal. Twelve of the victims died by gun violence.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Lansing Police Department at 517-483-4600, Detective Sgt. Rick Thomas at 517-483-6847, Crime Stoppers at 517-483-7867, or to send a direct message to the Lansing Police Department's Facebook page.
