Jack Wilshere has rejoined Bournemouth, signing a six-month contract with the Championship club. The 29-year-old has been training with the club while a free agent, and will now stay on as a player until the end of the season.

Wilshere enjoyed a loan spell at Bournemouth in 2016-17 as he sought to rebuild his injury-hit Arsenal career, making 27 Premier League appearances on the south coast.

Two years at West Ham followed where injuries again hampered his progress, and he was released by the club in the summer despite his claims that he was fit and ready to play.

“From the minute I walked through the door three weeks ago, it felt natural and like I had never been away,” Wilshere said. "I know a lot of the players and staff here and I’m pleased they allowed me to train initially, and then it just went from there. I’ve been impressed by the coaching staff, the way they work and the ambitions of the club to get back to the Premier League.

“We all share the same ambitions and I’m looking forward to playing my part in helping to achieve those.”

Bournemouth are currently third in the table under manager Jason Tindall, who said he was “delighted” to sign Wilshere and add his quality to their promotion push.

“There’s no doubting Jack’s quality. In his own words, he feels he’s got unfinished business here and he was a huge part of our most successful time. I’ve been really pleased with what I’ve seen since he’s been training with us.”
