Izzard elected Douglas County Sheriff; Assembly results slow to come in

Aug. 10—SUPERIOR — Douglas County Sheriff's Office detective Matthew Izzard will be the next sheriff, according to unofficial results of the Democratic primary Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Izzard carried more than 62% of the vote Tuesday night in a three-way race to be Douglas County's top law enforcement officer.

Democratic challengers Deputy Brian Witt carried 18.2% of the vote and Douglas County Board Chairman Mark Liebaert received 19.2% of the vote.

The primary decided the outcome of the Nov. 8 election because all of the candidates ran as Democrats.

With more than 60% of precincts reporting Tuesday, Chanz Green of Grand View held a strong lead over Republican challenger John Schey for the 74th District Assembly seat.

The owner of the Pioneer Bar near Cable and Ashland Event Rentals, Green was leading with 70% of the vote.

Green said he decided to seek office when he started to get to know a lot of people in the area and saw how they were struggling with inflation.

If the lead holds, Green will face John Adams of Washburn in the Nov. 8 election. Adams ran unopposed in the Democratic primary Tuesday.

The 73rd District Assembly seat was too close to call Tuesday night, with Angie Sapik of Lake Nebagamon holding a small lead over Republican challenger Scott Luostari with most precincts in Washburn and Burnett counties not reporting as of 11:15 p.m.
