The It List: Shia LaBeouf makes a comeback in 'Peanut Butter Falcon,' the '90210' gang reunites for summer run, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion turns 50 and the best in pop culture the week of August 5, 2019

The It List is Yahoo’s weekly look at the best in pop culture, including movies, music, TV, streaming, games, books, podcasts and more. Here are our picks for Aug. 5-11, including the best deals we could find for each.

WATCH IT: Shia LaBeouf makes a serious comeback in The Peanut Butter Falcon

Back in the ‘80s, The Peanut Butter Falcon would have been proudly displayed in a clamshell VHS case at your local Blockbuster alongside rough-around-the-edges kids’ movies like The Boy Who Could Fly and Cloak & Dagger. Written and directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, the whimsical story follows Zak (Zack Gottsagen) — a young wrestling fan with Down syndrome — along the highways and waterways of North Carolina in the company of sour-faced crab trapper Tyler (Shia LaBeouf). In the tradition of odd couple road pictures, the duo’s journey includes a little tragedy, some triumph and the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Even as the story traverses familiar territory, the lead actors and their supporting cast (including Dakota Johnson, Bruce Dern and Thomas Haden Church) make for pleasant traveling companions. It’s particularly satisfying to see LaBeouf so engaged with the material and with his co-stars after years where his off-screen antics pulled focus from his on-screen presence. We're calling it: The Shia comeback begins... now.

The Peanut Butter Falcon opens in theaters on Aug. 9. Visit Fandango and Atom Tickets for showtime and ticket information.

WATCH IT: Beverly Hills, 90210 returns with reboot BH90210

It’s taken more than 19 years to make it happen, but the gang from the original Beverly Hills, 90210 is finally back together. Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green will play heightened versions of themselves in a six-episode scripted drama series that the returning cast members are also producing. The show promises to play on the stars’ long history with each other, but it will also be a show-within-a-show, so thankfully fans will have a chance to see the Walsh twins and most of their friends. Sadly, heartthrob Dylan McKay will not be part of the reunion, since Luke Perry, the actor who portrayed him, died in March. However, Garth said the group’s loss brought them closer. “The timing was something that seemed horrific, but in a weird sort of universal way it was a way for us to all be together during [an] incomprehensible painful time,” Garth told Today. “I think that was really good for all of us, actually. And he was with us every second of the time.”

BH90210 premieres Aug. 7 at 9 p.m. on Fox, and the show can be streamed on Hulu Live TV the same day.

WATCH IT: Get back in the ring with Season 3 of GLOW on Netflix

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling leave La La Land in the rearview and head to Sin City for the third season of Netflix’s slam-tastic series. Thanks to an infusion of casino cash — courtesy of a former showgirl-turned-casino owner, played by Geena Davis — GLOW’s financial outlook is the healthiest it’s been in some time. But for the individual wrestlers, life in Las Vegas isn’t all champagne and poker chips. For one thing, performing the same show night after night is exacting a heavy toll on their minds and bodies — to say nothing of their career ambitions. And then there’s all the drama generated by the various affairs and misadventures of the heart, with various couples alternately shacking up, making up or breaking up. (Ruth and Sam ‘shippers…prepare for a wild ride.) Three seasons in, GLOW continues to outshine most of Netflix’s hour-long shows in its ability to continually reinvent itself, as well as juggle multiple characters and storylines without sacrificing opportunities for emotional complexity or ribald comedy. And these 10 half-hour episodes build to a powerhouse Christmastime climax that promises yet another new beginning for Season 4. We’re not ready for this GLOW to fade yet.

GLOW Season 3 premieres Aug. 9 on Netflix.

RIDE IT: Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride celebrates 50 years of spookiness

ANAHEIM, CA - DECEMBER 14: Disneyland's Haunted Mansion seen from Tarzan's Treehouse in Anaheim, California, on Thursday, Dec 14, 2017. The Haunted Mansion. It was originally conceived to look spooky and dilapidated on the outside, but Walt Disney didn't want anything shabby in his park, so that plan was discarded. Designers first thought they would build a walk-through attraction, but later added the "doom buggies" to the design to improve traffic flow. It’s not Halloween yet, but now is the perfect time to visit what remains one of the most popular attractions at the “Happiest Place on Earth.” And don’t be too surprised if you’re still spooked among the graves and ghouls. “It strikes that right balance. It titillates you in just that right way,” actress Kat Cressida, who voices the character of Constance, the Black Widow Bride, who was added to the mansion in 2006, tells Yahoo Entertainment. “The details are so fully — not to get too punny — but fleshed out.”

If you’re heartened by the stories of late bloomers, take note: Julia Child didn’t discover her passion for cooking until she was 36 years old. More than 50 years later, Child’s lust for life and hardcore coq du vin skills inspired New York City blogger Julie Powell to cook her way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Powell’s blog became the 2005 book Julie & Julia, which went on to become a 2009 film of the same name — the last to be written and directed by Nora Ephron before her 2012 death. Starring Meryl Streep as the American grande dame of French cuisine and Amy Adams as the plucky novice whipping up bœuf bourguignon in her honor, the film marks its 10th anniversary on Aug. 7. Don’t beat yourself up if you sit down to watch with the standard bowl of popcorn rather than, say, homemade pâté. In the words of Child herself, when it comes to food, “never apologize!”

Julie & Julia is available to stream on Amazon or Hulu.

Fans can enjoy five episodes, including the one known as the chocolate factory episode and the one where she famously pitches a terrible-tasting product called Vitameatavegamin, plus an all new featurette about the colorization process, as part of a Fathom event timed to late star Lucille Ball’s birthday. Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of Ball and her co-star Desi Arnaz, tells Yahoo Entertainment that the show’s message of acceptance still applies today, saying “the people who love us truly love us, allow us to get into terrible situations and make big fools of ourselves, get into trouble, and at the end of the day, they go, ‘Come here,’ and they hug you and they love you and life goes on.” Wearing the stylish, ‘50s wardrobe that Ball wears is optional.

Tickets for I Love Lucy: A Colorized Celebration in theaters on Aug. 6 can be purchased at Fathom Events.
