Iowa man with liver cancer weds girlfriend just a few hours before passing away

An Iowan man married his girlfriend just five hours before succumbing to liver cancer, KWWL reports.

Tristan Laue, 20, an army veteran, married his girlfriend, now Tianna Laue, on April 27. After he proposed to her on Easter, his family and the community came together to throw a wedding in the backyard of his Waverly home within 48 hours.

It was a ceremony no one will ever forget.

Tianna said she's happy the two were, at least, married for a short period of time before her husband passed.

"He's the love of my life," Tianna, who shares the same birthday as her partner, told KWWL. "Even, like, talking to my mom and everything, she said, 'Some people don't get what you two had in the amount of time, like they'll be together for years and still not have the same connection that you guys did.'"

Tristan joined the United States Army in July 2016. He was medically discharged in April 2018 and attended the University of Northern Iowa from 2018 to 2019. Recently, the university presented him with a certificate for completion of his last semester.

Tristan's funeral took place this past Saturday. His friends have since started a GoFundMe in an effort to create a memorial for him. It has raised well over its $3,000 goal as of Thursday afternoon.
