Interstate 94 and Interstate 35E project wrapped up year one of construction Friday

Dec. 6—Year one of construction for the Interstate 94 and Interstate 35E project wrapped up with the final ramp that was closed reopening on Friday.

The 12th Street and Wabasha Street ramp to westbound I-94 and southbound I-35E near the Capitol reopened Friday. It was the first ramp to close during this year's construction and the final ramp to reopen.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation officials say there is not more expected additional closures or work this year.

The two-year project that has an expected completion date of fall 2022 involves repairing and resurfacing the stretch of I-94 between Western Ave. and Mounds Blvd., as well as I-35E between I-94 and University Ave.

The project also will resurface ramps and frontage roads along I-94, repair drainage, upgrade storm sewers, work on bridge rehabilitation, sidewalk repair, and upgrade pedestrian sidewalks and approaches to Americans with Disability Act Standards.
