Kim Cattrall is best known for her role as Samantha Jones on the hit TV show Sex and the City. (More recently, she's also best known for skipping out on the new SATC reboot, And Just Like That...) Quippy one-liners and award-winning acting aside, the 65-year-old star is now making headlines for a hidden talent we didn’t see coming: scatting. Before we even attempt to unpack this, take a listen for yourself.

This video was first posted to YouTube in 2011, but the details of its origin are still a mystery. After some in-depth digital sleuthing, we'd guess that the original clip was shot sometime between 1998 and 2004, when Cattrall was still married to her then-husband, musician Mark Levinson. Since then, this internet gem has resurfaced multiple times, stunning some and confusing others with Cattrall’s cool-cat speaking voice and confident-yet-bizarre improvised scatting as her silent, bass-playing husband plucks alongside. To date, there are over 600,000 views on YouTube.

In an interview with Yahoo for her 2019 movie Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans, Cattrall finally addressed how this video came to be. “It was actually to promote his music and it was a very fun thing we did one afternoon in our little house, our little beach house we owned, and it spawned this kind of crazy fans to watch this video,” she explained. The 42-second-long clip even inspired artists Viviana Olen and Matt Harkins of THNK1994 art gallery (dedicated to all things pop culture) to create an exhibit based on the original music. “In Brooklyn, in New York, they had like, an opening, some artist, she had made some kind of painting to the music of it and the scatting. ... It was very odd!”

YouTube sensation aside, it's clear Cattrall's not quitting her day job. In fact, she's got four major projects in the works that are sure to keep her busy, including a new movie, a new comedic podcast and two new revival series. Personally, we can't wait to see her portray the future version of Hilary Duff's character in How I Met Your Father, the highly anticipated How I Met Your Mother spinoff.

And if you're still bitter Samantha Jones won't be joining us for brunch, tune into our podcast titled And Just Like That…A Sex and the City Reboot Podcast where we discuss each new episode as it airs (while sipping on cosmos, of course).
