Instant Analysis: Takeaways from the LSU Tigers 28-25 victory over Mississippi State
It was a slow start for the LSU offense against Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon, but they were able to get the job done in the end. The defense, on the other hand, started out hot but finished the game slow after giving up a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Even though Will Rogers completed 23 of his 28 passes in the first half, Mississippi State only mustered three points. It was 7-3 LSU at halftime. Kayshon Boutte caught two of Max Johnson’s four touchdown passes on a day where Mississippi State’s secondary could not catch a break.

Boutte had four receptions for 84 yards and cracked the career thousand-yard mark. He caught two touchdown passes including a 64-yard catch and run on a slant from Max Johnson.

The LSU defense held its own, even without Stingley

A late rally from the Mississippi State offense was held off and the Tigers survived. In order to slow down the air raid, LSU went with a three man front, which allowed MSU to collect 115 rushing yards (a season high). The Bulldogs racked up yardage, but could not get it done when it mattered most.
Max Johnson is on a roll

This is the six straight game where Johnson has thrown three touchdown passes. His TD/INT ratio is 15/3 on the season. He completed 17 of his 27 passes fo 280 yards and four touchdowns.
The offensive line had its ups and downs

While the run game continues to be an issue (63 yards on 27 attempts), the Tigers had decent pass protection on a pair of explosive plays including this one where the Mississippi State secondary was caught napping.

LSU is ready to face Auburn

Even though it was close at the end, LSU went out and executed their gameplan. After a rough start to the year LSU has managed to string together a few impressive performances. History indicates that LSU should be able to run with Auburn next weekend in Death Valley.
