Injured hiker rescued near Royal Arch outside of Boulder

Jul. 5—A 25-year-old woman was rescued after injuring her ankle while hiking near the Royal Arch in Boulder's Chautauqua Open Space.

About 9:20 a.m., the Boulder County Communications center got a call about a woman who had injured her ankle near the arch just west of Boulder.

The hiker was on her way down from the arch when she stepped on a loose rock and roller her ankle. The injury left her unable to bear weight and in need of assistance to reach the trailhead.

Rescuers from Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group found the woman and rendered medical aid. Then they put her in a full body vacuum splint and litter and carried her to a road access point. She declined further medical aid but accepted a ride to her vehicle, where a friend took her for further medical care.

Boulder Fire-Rescue and American Medical Response also assisted in this rescue.
