Indulge owner seeks to open cafe in former Mystic welcome center

May 5—MYSTIC — The owner of the popular Indulge coffee shop in Stonington Borough is seeking a special permit to turn the former Mystic Chamber of Commerce welcome center on Route 27 into a coffee and sandwich shop.

The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a May 18 virtual public hearing on an application by Geri Moran and building owner Donna D'Amico to change the use from office to restaurant.

The shop would be open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch items, and would have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. There would be parking for eight cars behind the shop. Moran's application states the shop would not generate any more traffic than the welcome center.

The shop could not open, though, until a moratorium on new sewer hookups with the Mystic treatment plant in lifted. That is expected in August, when upgrades are completed to pump some Mystic sewage to the underutilized borough treatment plant.
