Indonesia president visits volcano disaster zone

The 3,676 meter high volcano erupted spectacularly on Saturday (December 4), shooting a towering cloud of ash into the sky and dangerous pyroclastic flows down the slopes of the mountain into villages below.

Durrasyid, a resident from the worst-hit village of Curah Kobokan, had his house completely destroyed by the volcanic eruption and moved with his family into an evacuation center, where they were provided with hot meals and a temporary roof over their head.

Around 2,000 families would need to be relocated immediately, according to Widodo.

At least 22 people died, while 27 were missing and thousands were displaced, according to the nation's disaster mitigation agency.
