Illinois Valley barn fire under investigation, but no injuries

Jul. 4—A barn next to a motor home in the Illinois Valley caught fire early July 4, but no one was injured and the cause remains under investigation.

Illinois Valley Fire District responded to a structure fire off Reagor Lane east of Cave Junction just after 3 a.m., according to Fire Marshal Kamrone Ismaili. He said crews arrived to see a fully engulfed barn with flames coming out of the roof.

He did not keep track of the exact time, but he said he believes the crew spent 30 to 45 minutes putting out the fire.

"There is too much damage right now to speculate (on the cause)," Ismaili said. "I'll probably take a better look at it tomorrow."

He said no one was residing in the motor home at the time of the fire; the vehicle was simply in storage.

"Oh yeah, I'm definitely thankful that it wasn't being used as a home," Ismaili said.
