Schools in and around Morgan County were able to send plenty of girls' track athletes to the next round during sectionals Tuesday.

Decatur Central (Pike sectional)

The Hawks saw a lot of success in Indianapolis, boasting four athletes and one relay team who will make the trip to regionals at Ben Davis next week.

Senior long distance runner Ayva Schmalz proved to be as efficient as ever, scoring two top five finishes to compete in two events at regionals. She ran the 1,600-meter race in 5:32.94, which was enough for second place. She wrapped up the day with a 12:08.59 run in the 3,200-meter race, which was good for fifth.

The field events are where Decatur Central really excelled, with three of its four advancers coming from the long jump, discus and shot put.
