The family compound boasts an impressive seven residences spread across rolling grasslands and forests with access to its own picturesque lake, rustic tea house, and artist's studio. With its ultra-private location and verdant surroundings, Green Gables is an enchanting haven for any garden lover or extended family looking for a quiet getaway.

In 1911, Fleishhacker tapped architects Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene to design the grand main home on the property. Departing for their signature Arts and Crafts style, the duo ensured the home felt a part of the astounding landscape with each room offering impeccable views of the world-renowned gardens and Santa Cruz Mountains.

Bountiful formal gardens feature native California plantings and vegetables, while soaring redwoods and oaks fill the grounds. The true crowning jewel of the property is the 60-by-300-foot Roman pool. Beyond the home’s parterre and lily pond, two curvaceous, stone staircases lead to the dramatic arcade and collection of outdoor ceramic pots.

Green Gables has been held by six generations of the Fleishhacker family, who have carefully preserved much of the main home’s original design, including three of the bedrooms designed by famed decorator Elsie de Wolfe. Over time, the other six residences, including one designed by modernist architect William Wurster, were added throughout the property to offer more privacy for guests. The sprawling estate has hosted a number of dignified visitors including European royalty and leaders of the United Nations.
