ICC knocks off Mississippi Delta

Dec. 1—FULTON — Itawamba Community College men's basketball team opened conference play with a 70-64 win over Mississippi Delta Community College Tuesday night.

The Indians (6-1, 1-0 MACCC) took their first lead of the game with just under 8 minutes left in the first half on a Hunter Stacy (Biggersville) 3-pointer off an assist from Bryan Steen (Charleston). However, the rest of the half was a back-and-forth affair but a last second 3-pointer by Daniel Mayfield (Toccoa, Ga.) gave the Indians a 30-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the duo of Fred Cleveland Jr. and Tyronn Mosley, both of Chicago, Ill., took charge of the ICC offense. A big dunk by Mosley off an assist from Cleveland gave the Indians their biggest lead of the night, 62-52, but the Indians would have to hold on late to pick up the victory.

Cleveland paced the Indians with 30 points, his second 30-plus point performance of the season, while Mosley scored all of his 11 points in the second half.

The Indians will travel to West Memphis, Ark. Saturday to take on ASU Mid-South Community College with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m. before returning to conference play next Tuesday at Northeast.
