Hurricane Ian Restrengthens on Path Toward Carolinas

Hurricane Ian was expected to make a second landfall on the coastline of the Carolinas on Friday, September 30, after leaving behind a trail of destruction in Florida.

Footage shared by the NOAA’s Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison shows Ian swirling over the Atlantic on Friday morning.

The storm had made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on September 28 before weakening to a tropical storm and then restrengthening to a hurricane by September 30, the National Hurricane Center said. Credit: UW-Madison CIMSS via Storyful
