Hurricane Ian: Jacksonville-area closings and cancellations, including Northeast Florida schools

Public K-12 schools

  • Baker County schools are closed Wednesday through Friday, including all extracurricular activities associated with the Baker County school district.

  • Bradford County schools are closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Clay County schools are closed Wednesday through Friday. Afterschool activities and athletics will continue Tuesday.

  • Duval County schools are closed Wednesday through Friday. Athletic activities and extracurricular activities are canceled until Monday. A decision will be announced Saturday morning on the status of Monday school and activities.

  • Nassau County schools are closed Thursday and Friday. Afterschool activities are canceled Wednesday through Friday.

  • Putnam County schools are closed from Wednesday through Friday. Tuesday is designated as an early release day. Extracurricular events from Wednesday through Friday are also canceled or postponed.

  • St. Johns County schools are closed Wednesday through Friday. Activities or athletic contests and extended day services will operate normally Tuesday.

  • In Columbia County, which includes Lake City, schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

  • San Jose Schools, a group of public charter schools, will hold an early dismissal at 1 p.m. Wednesday and close Thursday and Friday.

  • Glynn County in Southeast Georgia (including Brunswick) is closed Thursday and Friday. Schools will remain open on Wednesday.

Private K-12 schools

  • The Bolles School is closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Episcopal School of Jacksonville is closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Horizon Institute is closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Providence School is closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park is closed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and through the weekend. All on-campus activities, athletic practice and contests those days are cancelled.

  • Christ’s Church Academy is closed Thursday and Friday. All afterschool activities, including practices, are canceled Wednesday through Friday.

  • The 38 Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine schools in 17 North Florida counties are closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • All Broach School locations are closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Parsons Christian Academy is closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Greenwood School is closed Thursday and Friday. Wednesday's afterschool activities and homework help is canceled.

  • IDEAS Public Schools are closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • Seamark Ranch School in Green Cove Springs is closed for the rest of the week.

  • Trinity Christian Academy is closed closed Wednesday through Friday. All extra-curricular activities are canceled.

  • The Goddard School of Jacksonville is closed Thursday and Friday.

Higher education

  • Florida State College at Jacksonville is closed Wednesday through Friday, including faculty and administrative offices. Classes are expected to resume Saturday.

  • Jacksonville University is closed Wednesday through Friday. Classes, extracurricular activities and events are all canceled, and the university's administrative offices will also be closed. However, staff members working in security, dining and residences will remain on campus during the closure.

  • University of North Florida is closed Wednesday through Saturday, including online classes. Activities and events scheduled on campus are also canceled.

  • Flagler College will not hold in-person classes Wednesday through Friday, and extracurricular activities and campus events are canceled or postponed. Residence halls and the dining hall are scheduled to remain open. Students may leave vehicles in the Malaga Street parking garage provided they are parked above the first floor.

  • Saint Leo University is closed Wednesday through Friday, including locations in Jacksonville and Mayport.

  • Nova Southeastern University's Jacksonville campus is closed after Tuesday classes through Sunday.

  • Keiser University Jacksonville is closed from 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Events and entertainment

  • The Fall Jacksonville Home + Patio Show scheduled for this weekend has been canceled. Ticketholders can use their tickets for any 2023 Jacksonville Home + Patio Show, donate the ticket purchase price to Habitat for Humanity or receive a refund at jacksonvillefallhomeshow.com/ticket-cancellation.

  • The "Blues Clues & You Live on Stage" performance Friday at the Florida Theatre has been postponed.

  • The St. Johns Cultural Council in St. Augustine is closed Thursday and Friday.

  • The Molly Hatchet concert Friday at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has been postponed.

  • The Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Flagler and St Johns counties Saturday has been postponed to Oct 15.

  • The Jacksonville LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Saturday has been postponed to Nov. 13.

  • The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, including Fort Caroline National Memorial, Kingsley Plantation, Cedar Point, Theodore Roosevelt Area and Spanish Pond, closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday. It will reopen following a post-storm damage assessment.

  • KidsPark Jacksonville is closed Thursday and Friday.

  • The Brumos Collection museum is closed until Monday.

  • The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens closes Wednesday. Reopening will depend on a post-storm damage evaluation.

  • Jacksonville's Museum of Science and History is closed Thursday and Friday.

  • The Riverside Arts Market is closed Saturday.

  • The Jacksonville Humane Society's 24th Toast to the Animals fundraiser Wednesday has been postponed to Nov. 9.

  • The Night Tour concert featuring Maxwell, Joe and Fantasia Friday has been rescheduled to Sunday. Tickets for Friday night's show will be honored on the new date. Ticketholders have seven days to request a refund.

  • The gallery opening of Atlantic Beach-based artists Elizabeth Sarah and Philip Bennett Walker Friday has been rescheduled for Saturday.

  • The Dead Poet Society show at Jack Rabbits Thursday has been canceled.

  • The Lego BrickUniverse Fan Convention this weekend at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds has been postponed to April 1-2. Tickets will be honored for the new dates.

  • Two Jacksonville Symphony concerts this weekend — Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring pianist Tianxu An — have been postponed to March 10-11.

  • The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is closed Thursday. The Welcome to Manatee-ville event Saturday has been postponed to Nov. 4. Tickets will be honored for the new date.

  • The We The Kingdom show Sunday at the Florida Theatre has been postponed. All tickets will be honored for the show's new date, which will be announced soon.

  • The Jerry Seinfeld show Saturday at the Moran Theatre has been postponed to April 20, 2023. Tickets will be honored for the new date.

  • The Lucius concert Friday at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre has been canceled. The show was to be the final event in the month-long Sing Out Loud Festival.

  • Cece Winans' Believe For It concert Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church has been postponed to spring 2023.

  • The River City Pride Parade in Jacksonville Saturday has been postponed until further notice. The kick-off party, Comedy for Pride with Jessica Kirson and the Sunday pride festival will still be held.

  • The Soul Food and Music Fest in Green Cove Springs Saturday has been postponed to Nov. 5.

  • Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach is closed Thursday but will reopen Friday.

Other closings, delays

  • Jacksonville Naval Air Station is closed to non-essential personnel from 4 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday and possibly Friday. The NAS Jax Child Development Center and Youth Activities Center are closed from noon Wednesday. The base hospital's outpatient clinics and services, Naval Branch Health Clinic Jacksonville and Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport are closed Wednesday through Friday.

  • City of Jacksonville offices close at noon Wednesday, except Senior Centers, which will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

  • JTA bus routes are suspended from 8 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday. Service is expected to resume by mid-day Friday, following a Sunday schedule if weather permits. Skyway service is suspended at 8 p.m. Wednesday until Monday.

  • All Jacksonville Public Library locations are closed from noon Wednesday through Saturday.

  • Jacksonville waste collection will be suspended Thursday and Friday. Those days will not be made up; normal curbside services resumes Monday, .

  • The Duval County Courthouse is closed from noon Wednesday through Friday. The closure also applies to the Clerk of Court's beaches branch.

  • The Duval County Tax Collector is closed from noon Wednesday until 8:30 am Monday.

  • All locations of the First Coast YMCA are closed Wednesday through Friday and will reopen Saturday. Before and afterschool programming will follow school closings.

  • The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will halt operation of the St. Johns River Ferry about 9 p.m. Tuesday, following the last trip of the day. The terry will be relocated to a secure location at 7 a.m. Wednesday; service is expected to resume by Saturday.

  • Wells Fargo will delay the openings and close several branches in Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau and St. Johns counties Wednesday. Go to wellsfargo.com for real-time information on specific branches.

  • VyStar Credit Union branches in Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Augustine North and St. Augustine Beach are closed Wednesday and Thursday. Branches in Palatka are closed at noon Wednesday and Thursday. All branches are closed Thursday.

  • The Beaches branch of 121 Financial Credit is closed Wednesday through Friday. Other branches and the Contact Center are closed Thursday and Friday.

  • First Florida Credit Union branches in Jacksonville, Saint Johns and Orange Park are closed Thursday. Regular hours are expected to resume Friday.

  • All Jax Federal Credit Union branches and its Member Engagement Center are closed from 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Normal business hours are expected to resume Saturday.

  • Ascension St. Vincent’s medical group offices, which are doctors offices, primary care, urgent care and specialty care clinics that are affiliated with the hospital, are closed Thursday through Friday. All Ascension St. Vincent’s hospitals remain open.

  • Three HCA Florida-affiliated imaging centers and 18 specialty and physicians offices are closed for the rest of the week. Patients are being notified to reschedule their appointments. HCA's area hospitals, including Memorial Jacksonville and Orange Park, and freestanding emergency rooms remain open.

  • St. Augustine-based Flagler Hospital will limit access at 8 p.m. Wednesday, admitting only patients seeking emergency care or labor and delivery services via the emergency care center entrance. All visitors must leave the hospital by 8 p.m. Outpatient surgeries and elective procedures Thursday and Friday will be rescheduled. All Flagler Health+ Ambulatory Enterprise locations and satellite offices are closed Thursday and Friday and are expected to reopen Monday.

  • First Coast Cardiovascular Institute is closed Thursday.

  • Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center is closed Thursday and Friday.

  • Baptist Health-affiliated physicians offices are closed Thursday. Also, at 6 a.m. Thursday hospital visitation will be temporarily limited to one designated visitor for each adult patient who can stay for the duration of the hurricane and two visitors for labor and delivery or Wolfson Children's patients.

  • All UF Health's primary and specialty care practices in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are closed Thursday and expected to reopen Friday.

  • Green Cove Springs will close city buildings at 7 a.m. Thursday and suspend trash pick-up that day. All city parks and recreational areas, including the City Pier and the Spring Park canoe and kayak launch, closed at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

  • Duval County beaches and its waters are closed until further notice because of extreme tides and life-threatening ocean conditions.

  • The JAX Chamber is closed Wednesday through Friday and all its events during those days have been canceled.

  • Jacksonville International Airport has canceled all Thursday flights and closed its terminal.

  • The U.S. Postal Service temporarily suspended some mail delivery and retail operations in Northern Florida Thursday until further notice. The areas with suspended service include East Palatka, Palatka, Anastasia Island, St. Augustine and St. Augustine Annex.

  • Jacksonville National Cemetery is closed Thursday and Friday.

  • All Nemours Children’s Health Jacksonville locations are closed Friday.

  • Some businesses, including restaurants, may close if Jacksonville has high winds, flooding and power outages. Call your favorite business or restaurant before driving there.
