Huron County Community Library happenings
Oct. 2—There is so much happening, so much to do. Count on all of the Huron County Community Library locations to keep you busy throughout the whole month of October.
Willard
At our Willard Memorial Library location two special programs are scheduled this month for adults. On October 20 at 5:30 p.m. Marc DeWerth from the Bigfoot Field Research Organization will be here for a close look at Bigfoot in Ohio. He will be sharing his own personal experiences and other stories and evidence of Bigfoot in Ohio.
On October 27 at 6 p.m. join us in the Willard Annex to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and traditions of local Hispanic heritage. We'll be sampling a section of Latinx treats with Silvia from Starting Point and other local cooks.

Join Jarrad on "Tech Thursdays" at 6:30 p.m. These sessions in Oct. and Nov. will cover Google Docs and a certificate of completion will be given when finished. On Oct. 6, Lesson 1 covers "Google Docs Orientation", on Oct. 13, Lesson 2 covers "Sharing a Google Doc", on Oct. 20, Lesson 3 covers "Collaborating in a Google Docs, and on Oct. 27, Lesson 4 covers "Formatting Text. If you love to write and want to start writing but just haven't found the time, join our "Writer's Group". For information or to sign up, contact Josh at jfigley@huroncolib.org. "Writer's Group" will meet Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
Are you feeling creative? Take advantage of one of our Adult Workshops. On Monday, October 17 at 6 p.m. join Terry at our Willard Annex to learn how to make your own hand knitted pumpkin! This a great project for beginners, no knitting needles or experience is needed.
Tween and Teens, join Mrs. Rogers at Willard for fun activities, crafts, and more on Mondays at 4 p.m. On Oct. 3 the theme is "Skeletons and Slime", Oct. 17 is "Bingo, Mummies, and Zombies", and Oct. 24 is a "Pumpkin Party and Games". Don't forget you can stop by the Teen Room anytime to game, craft, or just hangout.
Manga Club for 6-8 grades is back! Contact Mrs. Rogers or Mrs. Stevens at Willard City Schools for more information on dates and to pick up a permission slip.
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9 to 15 and this year is celebrating 100 years!! Stop in the Youth Department the week of Oct. 9 to pick up a free Smokey the Bear book, coloring pages, and activity sheets.
Drop in after school for some Halloween fun with Miss Char. Activities will be available after school til 6 p.m. while supplies last. The theme for Tues. Oct. 11 is "Pumpkins", Oct. 18 is "Bats", and Oct. 25 "Not so Creepy".
Come visit Miss Char during "Goods in the Woods" on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 and make some fun Sand art Pumpkins.
Join us in the Storytime Room on Mon. Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m. Creepy or cute...create a Halloween scene in a container to take home and display. All supplies are provided.
Treats...No Tricks! Come see Miss Char during Trick or Treat for a special treat... we promise NO tricks! Trick or Treat is Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
Bring your little ones on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. or Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for "Read to Me Storytime" with Miss Mitzi. Join us for stories, crafts, songs, and more. The theme for Oct. 5 and 6 is "Stop, Drop, and Roll Fire Safety" (Oct. 6 will have special guests and a visit with the fire truck), on Oct. 12 and 13 it is "Let's Learn Good Manners", on Oct.19 and 20 it is "Hey Bears! It's Time to Hibernate!", and on Oct. 26 and 27 it is "Frost on the Pumpkin."
"Monday Reads" will meet at Willard on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. to talk about "The Vanishing Half" by Brit Bennett.
"Turn the Page Book Discussion" will meet Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. to discuss "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate.
"Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club" will share delicious recipes in the Annex on Thursday, October 6 at 6 p.m. from the Depression Era.
Greenwich
Are you a Homeschool family? Join us once a month at the Greenwich Library for a special
group just for you. Each month will focus on learning and experiments or activities on different school subjects. Come on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. for "Dino Day".
Take part in Storytime at our Greenwich location. Join Jenny for stories, crafts, and more on Wednesdays, Oct. 5 and 12 at 5:30 p.m. or on Fridays, Oct. 7 and 14 at 11 a.m.
Let's celebrate Fall with a special Fall Party on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 5:30 p.m. or Friday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. Join Jenny for fun Fall themed activities and stories.
Parents, drop in at the Greenwich library each week in October for a new Quiet Book for your child. Pick them up on Monday, Oct. 3, 17, 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Take and Make for Teens will be available while supplies last on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Monday, Oct. 24.
Kids can pick up a Take and Make Kit on Oct. 3,22,27,24, and 31 at Greenwich. Each date will feature a new craft or activity that you can do at home.
Come to our Greenwich Library on the first Monday of the month for Adult Craft Workshops. On Monday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. we will make hand knit pumpkins. The method uses only your hands not needles.
The Greenwich Book Club will get together on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. to share thoughts on the book "Who is Maud Dixon" by Alexandra Andrews.
North Fairfield
Pop-in and Play will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m. Join Miss Carolyn at the North Fairfield Library for an afternoon of games and fun.
Stories, music, and fun, fun, fun! Bring your little ones for a fun filled morning with Miss Carolyn. Storytime will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at our North Fairfield location. Also, parents, stop by each week and pick up a weekly Take and Make Craft Kit for kids.
North Fairfield has a special "Sit and Stitch" group. Bring a project to work on and meet other like-minded people. Exchange ideas or patterns, or get some pointers on that difficult section. This group will meet Oct. 3, 17, 24, and 31 at 10 a.m.
The Inspirational Book Club at North Fairfield recommends that you read "Beautiful on the Mountain" by Jeannie Light for this month of October. Also let Carolyn find you and amazing new read.
Wakeman
There is something "New" at the Wakeman Library. Join us for a kid's cookbook club especially for Homeschoolers on the first Tuesday of each month at noon. Join us on Oct. 4 at noon and bring a prepared dish from the "Delish Kids Cookbook" by Joanna Saltz. Copies of the book are available at the Wakeman circulation desk.
It's "Thursday After School"! Drop in at the Wakeman Library anytime between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27 for a different fun activity every week.
There are two different days and times for Storytime at Wakeman. Join us at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Oct 6, 13, 20, and 27 or Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 7, 14, 21, and 28.
Registration is required to take part in creating a Haunted Gingerbread House. Stop in or call 440-839-2976 for Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or Thursday, Oct. 20 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
A special craft program for tweens, teens, and adults will take place at our Wakeman location. Celebrate Halloween by creating your very own Zombie doll. Zombie Barbies will be held Monday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. Registration is preferred so call 440-839-2976.
Adult Workshops are back at Wakeman. Join us in person on Monday, Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. to create "Hand Knit Pumpkins" by using your only your hands.
Beginner Line Dancing is still available at Wakeman. Join us on Oct. 6 and 20 at 4 p.m. at the Wakeman Masonic Hall across the street from the library.
Wakeman Cookbook Club will meet Monday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. and share recipes created from the book, "Magnolia Table" by Joanna Gaines. Copies of the book can be picked up at the Wakeman circulation desk.
"Who Picked This Book?" Wakeman's book club will meet Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. to share their thoughts on "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck. Pick up your copy at the circulation desk.
