Hugh Grant says UK is 'f***ed' as he brands government 'bonkers'

Hugh Grant has claimed the UK is “f***ed” as he ridiculed the latest government guidelines for social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Four Weddings And A Funeral star – who has publicly campaigned against Brexit and against Boris Johnson’s Conservative government – made the declaration on social media while sharing a TV clip of health secretary Matt Hancock.

In the clip, from ITV’s This Morning, Hancock tells Phillip Schofield that it is within the guidelines for people to see both their parents one-at-a-time, 10 minutes apart, to which the presenter exclaims: “But don't you see that that's utterly bonkers?"

Grant tweeted: “It is. They are. We’re f***ed.”

The 59-year-old actor also shared a clip of Conservative MP Peter Bone telling Channel 4 News why Boris Johnson's televised address on Sunday 10 May breached ministerial code.

Grant tweeted: “Mr Peter Bone. I cannot say we see precisely eye to eye on Brexit, but one of the most clued up, charming and courteous MP’s I have met in 9 years of campaigning. And spot on here.”

Father-of-five Grant is among the celebrities who starred in a video thanking healthcare workers for keeping going during the pandemic.

The Paddington 2 star also surprised a four-year-old cancer patient with a video message as his character from the film.

Earlier this week Kathy Burke branded the prime minister a “charlatan” and a “shambles of a human” for his response to the coronavirus crisis.

And Matt Lucas has released his own version of Johnson’s speech, which has been retweeted over 70,000 times.
