Earl Woods' high school football season didn't end how he wanted, but there was a decent reward down the line.

The Hueytown quarterback was named Alabama high school football Gatorade Player of the Year Tuesday. He led Hueytown to its first state championship game, where it lost the Class 6A title 46-42 to Clay-Chalkville at the AHSAA Super 7 Friday.

The 5-foot-9, 162-pound junior passed for 3,072 yards and 32 touchdowns while rushing for 2,123 yards and over 25 touchdowns in the state's second largest classification.

"Blessed to win Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year," Woods wrote on social media. "Grateful to my coaches and teammates."

Woods battled a leg injury in the state championship, limping much of Hueytown's second half comeback attempt, only stepping out for a two-point conversion try. He passed 26 of 44 for 246 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 31 times for 112 yards and one touchdowns.

Later Tuesday, Woods reported an offer from Jacksonville State.
