HS Roundup: Oakes girls basketball flies through South Border 95-38

Dec. 1—A 19-2 fourth quarter saw the Oakes High School Tornadoes girls basketball team put the game away against the South Border High School Mustangs. The run was part of a 95-38 win at Oakes High School on Monday, Nov. 29.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 0-1 on the season. The win moves the Tornadoes to 1-0 on the season.

The Mustangs only points of the final quarter were scored by sophomore Brylee Fast, as part of her four points in the game. The Mustangs were led by junior Emily Jochim's 18 points, including three triples.

The Tornadoes were led by junior Laikyn Roney's 26 points.

Despite the lopsided loss, Mustangs head coach Jamie Bittner is understanding of his team's age and the impact that has.

"We are very young also, bringing back one girl who played varsity last year," Bittner said. "We started a junior, three sophomores and one freshman."

The Mustangs are back in action at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3 when they face the Ellendale High School Cardinals. The Tornadoes are back in action at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 as they host the Kindred High School Vikings.
